In the current polarised world, it becomes apparent (as an editor or journalist, but also in any other walk of life) that one is always navigating narratives. ‘Facts’ – an outdated notion by all accounts, anyway – are pretty much meaningless in a vacuum. What everyone wants to know is who are the good guys, and who are the bad guys.  Being equipped with certainties enables us to play up the moral outrages that ‘fit’ our picture and play down those that don’t.
