EU vows to maintain sanctions on Russia

EU says that it will never recognise Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

The European Union has indicated that it will keep sanctions on Russia and certain Russian individuals over its role in Ukraine, despite U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s apparent friendly overtures toward Moscow. Prior to a meeting of EU foreign ministers on 6 February, the EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said: ‘I cannot say where the U.S. administration stands on this, but I can say where the Europeans stand on this.’ The EU says that it will never recognise Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, and that it expects the Kremlin to abide by the Minsk Agreement.
