James Robinson is a senior associate in the EU, Competition and Trade Department of Baker McKenzie’s London office.

James specialises in EU and UK competition and trade law. The trade element of his practice is focused on export control and sanctions matters. James advises clients across a number of industry sectors, such as energy and energy services, IT, telecommunications, aviation, defence and manufacturing/engineering. He works on a broad range of outbound trade matters, including audits, risk assessments, classification queries, applications for multi-destination open licences, and the preparation of voluntary disclosures. James also advises clients on the outbound trade issues arising from cross-border mergers and acquisitions and the application of UN and EU sanctions regimes to international transactions. James has particular expertise in advising ITC clients on encryption controls.

James joined the London office of Baker & McKenzie in September 2005 and qualified into the EU, Competition and Trade Department in September 2007. From March to June 2007 James was seconded to Baker & McKenzie’s European and Competition Law Practice in Brussels.

James was admitted to practise as a solicitor in September 2007. He has a BA Honours in Modern Languages (French and German) from Oxford University. James completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School, London.
