Robert Shapiro advises clients on issues concerning the valuation, classification and origin of imported merchandise; duty-deferral and recovery; free trade agreements; export controls governing dual-use goods under the EAR and munitions under the ITAR; economic sanctions by OFAC; and FCPA issues.
Robert’s technical background is particularly valuable in understanding international trade issues confronted by the electronics, chemical, pharmaceutical and industrial industries. Robert served as the vice president of a major logistics firm prior to entering the practice of law, where he developed an understanding of the systems and procedures that are needed to avoid violations and minimize penalty exposure. This experience enables him to provide his clients with a unique insight into both the transportation and regulatory aspects of trade, and the practical implications of compliance and enforcement measures.
He represents clients in antidumping, safeguard and other trade remedy actions before the ITC and the Department of Commerce. He also regularly represents clients before the CBP, the U.S. Department of State, the Federal Maritime Commission, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and United States Congress.Back
