EU amends restrictive measures on Venezuela and North Korea

The EU has amended its restrictive measures on Venezuela and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (‘DPRK’) (6 November).

On DPRK, the EU has amended the list of prohibited vessels in the light of further information on some of those vessels published by the UNSC.

On Venezuela, the EU renewed restrictive measures until 14 November 2019, and amended the reason given for sanctioning Diosdado Cabello Rondón, the President of the Constituent Assembly and First Vice President of the ruling party United Socialist Party of Venezuela (‘PSUV’). The reason given is Rondón’s involvement in ‘undermining democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela, including by using the media to publicly attack and threaten political opposition, other media and civil society.’
