EU and US extend asset freeze over misappropriation of Ukrainian state funds

The EU Council has extended asset freezes against 13 persons identified as responsible for ‘the misappropriation of Ukrainian state funds’, or ‘the abuse of office causing a loss to Ukrainian funds’, until 6 March 2019.  Last week, the US extended the national state of emergency in respect of the Ukraine for one year.

Since March 2014, both the US and the EU have imposed a range of restrictive measures against Russia and individuals connected with the illegal annexation of Crimea and the deliberate destabilisation of Ukraine.
