UK updates licence to exclude Venezuela as a permitted destination

The UK’s Department for International Trade (‘DIT’) and Export Control Joint Unit (‘ECJU’) have issued a notice to exporters alerting exporters to an amended and republished open general transhipment licence (‘OGTL’) following an ‘inadvertent omission’ that occurred when updating a number of licences after the introduction of sanctions against Venezuela. Venezuela has now been added to the list of destinations for which the OGTL is not valid.

Venezuela is subject to both US and EU sanctions as a result of repeated violations of individual freedoms by the Maduro government and concerns that recent elections lack legitimacy.
