Due to popular demand, we are offering a second presentation of this must-attend training course for compliance professionals

‘If there’s one category of online training that I’d advise compliance professionals to invest in, it’s open source investigation – essential to due diligence, customer verification, destination confirmation and more.’

So said former Bureau of Industry & Security Special Agent Don Pearce during his highly-acclaimed WorldECR Forum presentation in January this year – and the statement was the genesis of a three-part online introduction to open-source investigative techniques you can use in your compliance and due diligence activities, as Don shares the skills he picked up while conducting criminal investigations, performing end-use verifications, and compliance monitoring for export controls while in government service.

In three sessions of up to 90 minutes, you will walk through real-world search techniques, identify sources of information to verify the bona fides of parties to a transaction, corroborate information on business activities, and locate shipments, vessels, and aircraft on the internet.  Topics include: finding commercial information resources, how to use geospatial imagery and an introduction to vessel & aircraft tracking sites.  The course concludes with a chance to see how it fits together by conducting live searches and analysing the results in real-time.

Part One: Commercial Research Resources

  • Web search terms optimisation
  • Business records available on the web
  • Gathering information through webpages and social media accounts
  • Deep-diving on a company via the internet archive

Part Two: Geospatial and Tracking Resources

  • Satellite imagery available on the web
  • Planning a virtual site visit
  • Introduction to aircraft and vessel tracking

Part Three: Putting it all together

  • Search corporate records in real-time
  • Conduct a virtual site visit
  • Find vessel and aircraft traffic
  • Documenting your findings
