Dealing with export control enforcement in Europe can be challenging for multinational companies as each of the 27 Member States of the European Union has its own laws against export control violations. While Council Regulation 428/2009 provides for the principle of sanctions, the nature of the sanctions themselves is left to the competence of the Member States.
