Maya Lester is a barrister at Brick Court Chambers in London. She specialises in sanctions law, both advisory work and litigation, and practises public and administrative law, European and competition law/antitrust. Maya has appeared in a large number of leading sanctions cases in the European courts in Luxembourg and in the United Kingdom, including Kadi, Tay Za, IRISL, NITC, and Central Bank of Iran, concerning sanctions regimes relating to terrorism, Iran, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Syria, Russia and Belarus. She currently acts in four pending cases challenging the EU’s Russia sanctions. Maya is on the Attorney General’s A panel, and A Public International Law panel (which means she acts for governmental bodies in the UK as well as private parties and NGOs).
She spent 2011-12 as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School working on comparative sanctions law, organised conferences on targeted sanctions and the rule of law at NYU Law School in 2012 and UCL in 2013, and is a very regular speaker at conferences and workshops including for the IBA, World ECR and the British Bankers Association.Back
