ECJU updates Strategic Export Control List

The UK’s Export Control Joint Unit (‘ECJU’) has issued an updated version of the ‘UK Strategic Export Control List’ to include new control entries.

‘Further to the recent amendments to Export Control Order 2008 (“the 2008 Order”) and the Council Regulation (EC) No 428/2009 laid out in Notice to Exporters 2024/04, we have now issued an updated version of the UK Strategic Export Control List to include new control entries,’ ECJU said in a notice, 3 April. The amendments include provision for the inclusion of:

  • semiconductor technologies;
  • quantum technologies;
  • cryogenic technologies;
  • additive manufacturing equipment; and
  • advanced materials.

Updates to the list occur about twice a year for the following broad categories of controlled goods: items specifically designed or modified for military use and their components; dual-use items that can be used for civil or military purposes; associated technology and software goods that might be used for torture; and radioactive sources.
