Trading places: compliance leads on the move

The new year has seen significant movement among trade compliance professionals in industry, suggesting that C-suites are focused on compliance in the year ahead.

Speaking to WorldECR’s sister publication, Export Compliance Manager, one commentator said, ‘Management of companies are increasingly focused on compliance and a change in administration in the US will not change that. Covid-19, supply chain shake-ups, ever more sanctions, trade wars with China, more countries introducing CFIUS-type controls, emerging tech… the list goes on and on. C-suites know that trade compliance is going to become even more important to their businesses going forward and I think many are finally taking the famous wise words seriously: “If you think compliance is expensive – try non-compliance.”’

Among those on the move have been Kathleen Palma, formerly of GE, who has taken on the role of Vice President, Global Trade Controls at Boeing; Valentin Povarchuk, who has joined Seagate Technologies as Senior Corporate Counsel for Trade Compliance and Regulatory Affairs; and Andre Hermsen, who joins ASML as Senior Director Compliance & Export Control from Fokker/GKN.
