UK, Canada, Norway sanction Israeli ministers for ‘incitements of violence’

The United States has condemned the sanctions imposed, 10 June, by the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Norway on two Israeli government ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, for the their ‘extremist rhetoric’ which, those countries have said, ‘…calls for Palestinians to be driven from their homes, encourages violence and human rights abuses and fundamentally rejects the two-state solution’.

In sanctioning Ben-Gvir and Smotrich, the countries said that they are ‘steadfastly committed to the two-state solution which is the only way to guarantee security and dignity for Israelis and Palestinians and ensure long term stability in the region’.

On X, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, ‘These sanctions do not advance US-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war’.

The sanctioning countries have said that the ministers are sanctioned ‘in their personal capacities’, noting that the Israeli government has said that their comments on Palestinians do not reflect official policy.
