Aleksi Pursiainen, LL.M, is the founder and CEO of Solid Plan Consulting, Finland’s leading sanctions and export control consultancy.

Mr Pursiainen advises major exporters, financial institutions, technology companies, and other organizations on a comprehensive range of legal and policy issues related to compliance with trade regulations, such as EU and US sanctions, EU export control regulations and US re-export rules. He also regularly advises clients on other associated regulatory and compliance topics, such as privacy issues, anti-money laundering efforts, and foreign direct investment requirements.

Before founding Solid Plan Consulting in 2017, Mr Pursiainen was Head of Trade Compliance at Nokia Corporation’s legal division, advising Nokia’s senior leadership and other functions on global compliance with regulation of international trade as well as the development and implementation of Nokia’s Internal Compliance Program. Mr Pursiainen joined Nokia from the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where he led the Ministry’s Sanctions Team and represented Finland in its delegation to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Prior to his career at the Ministry, Mr Pursiainen supervised a Red Cross research team in United Kingdom as Senior Research Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre of Cambridge University.

Mr Pursiainen participates actively in public debate on trade compliance issues and is a popular speaker both in Finland and abroad. Mr Pursiainen’s recent written contributions on the topic include a research paper on the relationship of EU sanctions and fundamental rights and the chapter on Finland in WorldECR’s book Sanctions in Europe.
