Gerard specialises in public international law, with a particular emphasis on sanctions, export controls, anti-corruption and anti-bribery issues, and in investment law. He combines long-standing practical experience in the field of corporate law and litigation with a first-class academic background in international law.

His practice focuses on providing clients with risk assessments and solutions for their cross-border investments and transactions in the energy, defence, information technology, real estate development, infrastructure and E-commerce sectors. Gerard assists his clients with the filing of applications for all types of authorisations and licences, the negotiation and drafting of appropriate contractual clauses and project documentation, the drafting and implementation of compliance programmes, giving training courses, and the performance of internal screenings and audits.

He is a member of the Loyens & Loeff International Trade & Customs team which has a wealth of experience handling trade and customs issues on behalf of manufacturers, exporters, importers and end-users from the perspective of Dutch, Belgian, Luxembourg and Swiss law.

Gerard holds a PhD degree with honours from Leiden University and has published two major treatises on international law. He was admitted to the Dutch Bar in 1998 and speaks Dutch, English, and German fluently.
