James Killick is a litigator with a broad range of European law experience. His practice covers export controls and sanctions, international trade (dumping and subsidies), competition, and pharmaceuticals.

He advises clients in a wide variety of industrial sectors, ranging from information technology to chemicals and paper and pulp, and has been retained by one of America’s best-known companies and one of Europe’s major multinationals as their counsel for EU export control matters. He frequently advises clients throughout the world on EU sanctions issues and keeps a very close watch on the frequent changes to EU sanctions regimes (e.g. Iran, Syria, Libya, Belarus, Burma/Myanmar).

He also provides advice on export control compliance with the EU dual-use regulation and national military control regulation. This advice ranges from assistance to manufacturing/trading companies in determining whether products appear on control lists of EU sanctions regimes or the EU’s Dual-Use Regulation (or can enjoy certain simplified licensing procedures), to assessing compliance risks relating to past or future transactions involving EU nationals/entities, to providing export control advice relating to the offering of bonds (including by non-EU companies) or stock exchange listings, and obtaining multi-jurisdictional export authorisations. He also assists in due diligence matters, advising companies in determining potential liabilities in target companies in the area of export control/sanctions compliance.

Mr. Killick regularly publishes on export control matters and speaks at seminars on EU sanctions and export controls, explaining how EU regimes can affect non-EU businesses. He works closely with export controls/sanctions experts in the firm’s other offices, particularly Washington, DC and London.
