Sebastiaan’s practice focuses on all aspects of economic sanctions laws, export control legislation and related issues such as money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, bribery and corruption, and other compliance-related topics. Sebastiaan also regularly advises and represents clients in administrative and criminal proceedings and other regulatory enforcement matters, including internal investigations, settlement negotiations with and voluntary self-disclosures to national and foreign supervisory authorities (US, UK, EU and NL).
His recent work includes advising multiple listed offshore oil and gas companies on all economic sanctions and export control-related matters and guiding the re-entry of these companies into the Iranian market. In addition, Sebastiaan has assisted an international operating communication systems company with a voluntary self-disclosure before the national regulatory authorities. Sebastiaan has also advised a major international carrier in a criminal investigation for exports to Saudi Arabia without the required export licences. His recent work further includes advising one of the world’s largest international drone companies on the implementation of a compliance policy and providing transaction advice relating thereto. Moreover, Sebastiaan has extensive experience in respect of transactions relating to Russia and various African countries.

Sebastiaan lectures on economic sanctions and export controls and is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars about these and other compliance-related topics. In addition, Sebastiaan frequently publishes articles in legal magazines, is regularly quoted in newspapers, and often appears on radio shows.

Before founding BenninkAmar, Sebastiaan was a partner at Wladimiroff, and also at B&A Law, the first Dutch boutique firm specialising in economic sanctions laws and export control legislation. Prior to that, Sebastiaan worked at the Regulatory and Criminal Enforcement department of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, the Netherlands’ largest law firm.
