EU updates sanctions against North Korea

In the latest round of sanctions against North Korea (‘DPRK’), the EU has designated nine people and four entities, including the state-owned Foreign Trade Bank, imposing asset freezes and travel restrictions (10 August). The move aligns EU sanctions with those imposed by the United Nations Security Council (‘UNSC’) on 5 August in response to DPRK’s continued actions in developing its nuclear and ballistic weapons programmes, in contravention of previous UNSC resolutions. DPRK has conducted 12 missile tests since February 2017, including the launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles on 4 and 28 July.
