Typhoon OGEL updated to include Qatar

The UK Department for International Trade (‘DIT’) and Export Control Joint Unit (‘ECJU’) have published a notice to exporters alerting them that the open general export licence (‘OGEL’) concerning the Typhoon aircraft programme has been updated.

The list of permitted destinations to which military goods, software and technology for the ‘production, development or maintenance’ of Typhoon aircraft has been expanded to include Qatar, effective from 17 January. The revision follows Qatar’s agreement to buy 24 Typhoon jets from the UK’s BAE Systems in 2017.

Project Typhoon is a joint development between the German, Italian, Spanish and UK governments to produce the Eurofighter aircraft.
