UK aligns itself with UN on latest North Korea sanctions

The UK has passed secondary legislation to align itself with the latest UN Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on North Korea (‘DPRK’).

UNSC Resolution 2397, passed on 22 December 2017, targeted fuel imports and placed a ban on the export of food, machinery, electrical equipment, earth and stones, wood and vessels from DPRK, and on the import of industrial equipment, machinery, transportation vehicles and industrial metals.

The North Korea (United Nations Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2018, SI 2018/523 and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) (Amendment) Order 2018 SI 2018/524 will come into force on 22 May 2018.
