UK HMRC fines company for export control breaches

Penalty of £109,312.50 follows unlicensed exports of military goods.

Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (‘HMRC’) has said that it has ‘recently issued a compound penalty of £109,312.50 to a UK exporter. This related to unlicensed exports of military goods controlled by The Export Control Order 2008.’ It has not given further details. In March, a number of changes to the legislation came into effect. The amendments were to schedule 2 to the 2008 order, to implement Commission Directive (EU) 2017/2054 of 8 November 2017 amending Directive 2009/43/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the list of defence-related products (OJ L 311, 25.11.2017, p. 1).  ...
